Rodger L. Anderson
Rodger L. Anderson, a cherished family member and a dedicated community member,
passed away on February 6, 2026, at the Fargo VA Medical Center, surrounded by his
loving family. Born on April 18, 1948, in Drayton, ND, Rodger lived a life full of purpose,
pride, and abundant compassion.
Rodger graduated from Newfolden High School in 1966 and went on to serve his
country honorably in the Navy for six years. His military service was a source of great
pride for him, contributing to the principles that defined his character for the rest of his
life. After completing his service, he embarked on a successful career as a truck driver
for Hartz Foods, eventually becoming an owner/operator of his truck.
He was known for his cheerful disposition, often described as talkative and social,
although he also appreciated the solitude found during his long drives. Rodger had a
remarkable ability to connect with those around him, always ready to lend a helping
hand or offer support to anyone in need. His caring and compassionate nature left a
lasting impact on the lives of many.
Rodger’s hobbies included woodworking, leather working, and engaging in bingo games
at the VFW. He took pride in working with his hands, finding joy in construction
remodeling, and embraced the great outdoors through camping and fishing with his
children during their younger years. He was not only an active participant in his hobbies
but also actively contributed to his community, often playing the role of Santa at local
homes and the VFW.
Rodger’s legacy will continue through his children, Dustin Anderson of Thief River Falls
and Amy (Pat) Rosengren of Watertown, MN, and his beloved grandchildren, Camdyn,
Clara, and Charlie. He is also survived by his sisters, Jean Anderson and Serene Webb,
along with several nieces, nephews, and other relatives who will hold him dear in their
hearts.
Rodger was proud of his accomplishments, particularly his service in the Navy, and his
roles as a parent and grandparent. His tenure as Grand Commander of Minnesota in
the Military Order of the Cooties from 2008 to 2009 stands testament to his dedication
and leadership within the veteran community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Erliss, and his stepmother, Olga
“Dolly”. The memories of Rodger L. Anderson will be cherished and honored by all
those who had the pleasure of knowing him, and his spirit will undoubtedly live on in the
hearts of his family and friends.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 12, 2026 at Johnson Funeral
Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Russ Steer officiating. Visitation will be held one
hour prior to the service. Please join the family for bingo at the VFW Post #2793 in Thief
River Falls at 5PM.
