Jere Lee Ettesvold
Jere Ettesvold, age 83 of Cyrus, Minnesota, passed away Monday, June 8, 2026, he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of pancreatic cancer in May of 2026, he succumbed to this battle at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, MN.
Visitation for Jere Ettesvold will be held Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, MN.
Visitation will continue from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus, MN.
Funeral services for Jere Ettesvold will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus, MN, with Reverend Christopher Richards officiating.
Burial will be in Scandia West Cemetery, rural Cyrus, MN.
Jere Lee Ettesvold was born on September 3, 1942, in Morris, Minnesota. He was the son of Clarence and Cynthia (Hall) Ettesvold. He was baptized at Scandia Lutheran Church on October 11, 1942 and was later confirmed there in 1956. He graduated from Cyrus High School – Class of 1960. On August 28, 1965, he married Joyce Irene Koosmann at Glenwood Lutheran Church. Together they spent many years farming the land his great-grandfather homesteaded after moving from Norway in 1882, raising their two children and traveling the world together.
On June 18, 2002, Jere was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, he went through the treatments and against all odds, found himself to later be cancer free until May of 2026 – Jere was a true survivor. After his first diagnosis, Jere thought he may never live to be a grandfather. After going into remission, he was blessed with his first grandson, the very day he was originally diagnosed on June 18th, just two years later. A few years later he was then blessed with his granddaughter – together they brought a bright light to his world.
Throughout his entire life, Jere loved farming. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus – Jere was a good and faithful servant to his Lord and savior and a devoted husband, father and grandfather to his family. He was on the Cyrus Development Board, the West Central Conservation Tillage, Barnes AASTAD Board, Stevens County Historical Society Board of Trustees, Independent Farmer and Ag Services Board, the Cyrus School Board, the President and Officer in Sons of Norway and was a longtime Certified Minnesota Assessor where he assessed up to five townships.
Jere is survived by his wife: Joyce of Cyrus, MN; his son: John Ettesvold of Morris, MN; his daughter: Jennifer (Wes) Monty of Arcadia, FL; two grandchildren: Wesley Monty Jr. and Avery Monty both of Arcadia, FL; brother: Curt (Mary) Ettesvold of Morris, MN; nieces: Jennifer (Eric) Halvorson and Elisa Ettesvold (Jeremiah Day) both of Morris, MN; nephew: Arthur (Sarah) Werzner of Renton, WA.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Clarence and Cynthia; and his sister: Mary Jane Werzner.
