Gopher wins NCAA Hammer Throw Title
The Minnesota Gophers have another national champion in the hammer throw. Junior Angelos Mantzouranis won the men’s hammer throw title Thursday at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Mantzouranis captured his first NCAA championship, while teammate Anthony Barmes also scored for Minnesota with a sixth-place finish. It continues a dominant run for the Gophers in the event, after Kostas Zaltos won the national title last year. Minnesota’s men entered the meet ranked 12th nationally and turned the hammer throw into one of the biggest Gopher highlights of championship week.
