Deer Sanctuary Could Close Due To Fencing Requirement
(Learfield News/Hutchinson, MN) — A deer sanctuary in Hutchinson may have to close if it can’t come up with the money to build a second fence around the property.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has told the Gopher Campfire Wildlife Sanctuary in Hutchinson to have the fence in place by September 1st.
A state law requires the sanctuary to take the extra step to keep their herd from getting Chronic Wasting Disease by preventing the transfer of saliva.
The attraction needs 100-thousand dollars by July 15th to meet the state’s deadline. Operators say with donations and pledges, they’ve raised about 35-thousand dollars and the deer at the sanctuary will be put down if the fence isn’t built in time.
