Betty Hagen, age 91 of Hoffman, Minnesota, passed away Friday, May 31, 2024, at the Barrett Care Center.
Visitation for Betty Hagen will be held Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Hoffman, MN.
Memorial services for Betty Hagen will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hoffman, MN, with Pastor Bill Aufdenkamp officiating.
Inurnment in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Hoffman, Minnesota.
Betty Olga Arline Hansen was born on November 11, 1932, to Ole Alexander Hansen and Ella Ruth Uphoff-Hafsahl-Hansen in Rendsville Township. She was baptized on December 20, 1932, by Pastor Andrew Olson. In 1945, the family moved to a farm near Barrett on Thompson Lake. Betty graduated from District 52 Country School on June 26, 1946. She was confirmed by Reverend Ivar Sanburg at Lincoln Church. Her verse was Psalms 84:1-2, 4. On June 2, 1950, Betty graduated from Barrett High School. She then worked in Minneapolis for one and a half years.
On December 2, 1952, she was united in marriage to Raymond Hagen by Reverend Ivan Sandburg. Ray died on August 8, 1982. A new bride inherited two sons, Ernest, age 13, and Alan, age 6. She was a typical farmwife, balancing children, housework, helping in the barn and the fields, and raising a huge garden every year. After Ray’s passing, she enjoyed selling Avon for 30 years where she earned many awards which included the Presidents Club.
She worked at the Hoffman Nursing Home for thirty years, retiring after sustaining injuries from a car accident on her 60th birthday. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she served as Treasurer for the LWML. She also sat on the boards for the DAC, Parie Homes and Good Samaritan Homes.
She is survived by her children: Alan & Lois of Bullhead City, AZ, Charles of Little Falls, MN, Sheila & Lynn Schulz of Morris, MN, and Ronald & Marie Hagen of Hoffman, MN; one sister: Shirley Thom of Sioux Falls, SD, sisters-in-law: LaVonne Hansen of Alexandria, MN, and Det Hansen of Elbow Lake, MN, daughters-in-law: Sue Hagen, Barb Hagen, and Vivian Bentley; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-eight great-grandchildren: and fourteen great-great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Ray; son Ernest; grandson Doyle; her parents; sisters Marge Perko and Bea Hansen; brothers Harold Hafsahl, Richard, Henry, Edward, and Oliver Hansen.
Arrangements are with Erickson-Smith Funeral Home in Hoffman, MN.
