Twins fall in Extra Innings
(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Twins had their six-game winning streak snapped with a 3-2 ten-inning loss to the Tampa Bay Rays at Target Field. Royce Lewis hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to give Minnesota a 2-1 lead, but Tampa Bay tied it up in the seventh before a Lewis throwing error in the tenth inning allowed the Rays to score the eventual game-winning run. Jorge Alcala was charged with his second loss in relief. The Twins fell to 41-33 and trail Cleveland by five-and-a-half-games in the A-L Central. Minnesota will send Simeon Woods Richardson to the mound against Tampa Bay this afternoon for the rubber match of the three-game set. First pitch is 12:10 P-M in downtown Minneapolis.
(Minneapolis, MN) — A hero’s tribute to fallen Minneapolis Police Officer Jamal Mitchell before last night’s Twins game at Target Field. A video played on the big screens honored Mitchell’s life and legacy. More than a hundred fellow officers lined the first and third base lines with the Twins and Rays players during the national anthem. Many were wearing black t-shirts with Mitchell’s badge number 4819 and a blue line on it. The Twins made a ten-thousand-dollar donations to Mitchell’s family. Team officials say Mitchell was recently hired as a gameday officer at Target Field before he was killed in the line of duty.
