Sleepy Eye Player Receives Joe Mauer Award

The Minnesota High School Coaches Association, named its 1st Joe Mauer award winner, at the Associations All Star Banquet Thursday night. Sleepy Eye senior, Mark Anderson is the first recipient of this award. This new award that the coaches association started this year, is to honor Joe Mauer.         The criteria includes:

The athlete must have competed in a Fall, Winter, and Spring, MSHSL sanctioned sport for at least their Sophomore, Junior, and Senior seasons.   If an injury prevented them from competing in one sport season during those years, they would still be eligible.

Besides being recognized for their excellence in baseball, this athlete’s career in their other sports should be highlighted. Also, coaches need to list the honors and awards the nominee received in each of the three sports. The head baseball coach must describe the character of the player, and the impact they have had in baseball and the other two sports that they played. Any MSHSL violations during their High School athletic career will eliminate them from consideration.

The Coaches association also announced,  that Jakob Nachreiner from Springfield was named the     Class A Player of the Year.
