Jose Miranda hits early 3-run double to power Twins past Diamondbacks 8-3
PHOENIX, AZ – Jose Miranda sparked the Minnesota Twins’ dominance with an early three-run double, setting the tone for their 8-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday night. Miranda’s pivotal hit came in the second inning off Ryne Nelson (5-6), kickstarting a cascade of offensive prowess from the Twins.
The onslaught continued as Willi Castro added a two-run homer, Trevor Larnach doubled twice, and Minnesota’s potent lineup amassed 14 hits, including eight for extra bases. This offensive explosion followed a narrow 5-4 loss in the series opener, showcasing the Twins’ resilience.
On the mound, Simeon Woods Richardson (3-1) delivered a solid performance, holding the Diamondbacks to three runs on four hits over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked two before Arizona began to rally in the later innings.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. contributed two RBIs for Arizona, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Twins’ early lead. Nelson struggled against Minnesota’s hitters, surrendering six runs on 10 hits in just 3 2/3 innings, including key hits to Miranda, Larnach, and Carlos Correa.
With the win secured, the Twins look ahead to the series finale, where top pitching prospect RHP David Festa will take the mound in place of the injured Chris Paddack. Arizona will counter with LHP Jordan Montgomery (6-4, 5.71 ERA), aiming to salvage a win after dropping the first two games of the series.
