Health Risk Warning After Algae Bloom Confirmed in Kandiyohi Co Lake
(Atwater, MN) The Kandiyohi Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the Middle Fork Crow River Watershed District, is alerting residents and visitors to Diamond Lake near Atwater about the presence of algae bloom (red cyanobacteria) in the lake.
Commonly associated with hepatotoxins, the bloom can pose health risks to humans and are potentially fatal to animals and pets.
As a precautionary measure, property owners and visitors to Diamond Lake are advised to exercise caution, including keeping pets from coming into contact with lake water.
Officials say they are continuing to monitor the lake.
