Lynx rally past Sky 70-62 while Chicago’s Angel Reese breaks record for consecutive double-doubles

CHICAGO, IL – Kayla McBride led the charge with 16 points, while Napheesa Collier contributed 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Minnesota Lynx overcame a strong performance from Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese to secure a 70-62 victory on Sunday.

Reese set a new WNBA single-season record with her 10th consecutive double-double, finishing with 10 points and 16 rebounds. This achievement surpassed Candace Parker’s previous record set in 2015.

McBride showcased her scoring prowess with two crucial 3-pointers, alongside five rebounds and five assists for the Western Conference-leading Lynx (14-4). Collier excelled with six assists in addition to her double-double performance of 13 points and 11 rebounds. Alanna Smith chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Despite Reese’s record-setting feat, her shooting struggled, going 4 of 16 from the field and 2 of 4 from the free-throw line. She reached 10 points with a free throw late in the game.

Chennedy Carter led Chicago with 15 points, supported by Lindsay Allen’s 13 points, including three 3-pointers, along with seven assists and six rebounds. Marina Mabrey contributed 11 points despite shooting 4 of 17 from the field.

Trailing 51-42 in the third quarter, the Lynx rallied and closed the period with a buzzer-beating jumper from Collier, cutting the deficit to five points.

In the final quarter, Minnesota tightened their defense, holding Chicago to just 5 points while scoring 18 themselves. Courtney Williams’ three-point play gave the Lynx a crucial 61-59 lead with 3:14 remaining. McBride secured the win with four consecutive free throws in the closing minutes.

After allowing high shooting percentages in their previous game, Minnesota clamped down defensively, limiting Chicago to 30.5% shooting from the field.

Chicago, who drafted Reese with the seventh overall pick, dropped to a 3-7 record at home following the loss.

Next, Minnesota will face New York on Tuesday, while Chicago travels to Atlanta to take on the Dream.
