Trevor Larnach’s 2-run homer lifts Twins to 5-3 win over Mariners and extends HR streak to 19 games
SEATTLE, WA – Trevor Larnach’s eighth-inning heroics propelled the Minnesota Twins to a 5-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, extending their franchise-record home run streak to 19 games. Larnach broke the tie with a decisive two-run homer off Ryne Stanek (5-2), sending a pitch deep into right-center field for his eighth home run of the season.
Minnesota’s impressive streak is the second-longest in the majors this year, trailing only Baltimore’s 22-game streak earlier in June. Larnach’s offensive contributions weren’t limited to his late-game heroics; he also drove in a run with a first-inning single. The Twins built an early lead with Austin Martin’s run-scoring double and Jose Miranda’s RBI single in the fifth inning.
Pitching was key for the Twins as well, with Joe Ryan striking out 10 batters over 5 2/3 innings, allowing just one earned run. Jhoan Durán closed out the game with his 12th save, securing Minnesota’s series victory on the road, where they finished the trip with a 6-3 record.
Seattle faced challenges of their own, as Luis Castillo battled through five innings, yielding three runs before being lifted for a pinch hitter due to an injury-related lineup change. The Mariners lost their designated hitter early in the game when Mitch Garver was hit by a pitch, forcing catcher Cal Raleigh into action behind the plate and Castillo into an unexpected at-bat, his first since the 2021 season.
Despite a chaotic fifth inning that saw them score twice, including a disputed call at the plate that was overturned, the Mariners couldn’t capitalize fully, leaving the bases loaded. They tied the game in the seventh inning on Jorge Polanco’s clutch RBI single, but couldn’t maintain the momentum.
Looking ahead, the Twins return home to face Detroit, while the Mariners prepare to host Baltimore in their next series.
