FARMERS CAN APPLY FOR GRAIN STORAGE FACILITY GRANT SAFETY PROGRAM

Minnesota farmers who want to add safety equipment to their on-farm grain storage facilities can now apply for the Minnesota Department of Agriculture’s Grain Storage Facility Safety Grant Program, which will reimburse 75-percent of the cost to purchase and install eligible safety equipment for grain bins or silos.  Eligible safety equipment includes fall protection systems, grain silo air quality monitoring equipment, dust collection systems that minimize explosion hazards, engineering controls that prevent contact with an auger or other moving parts among other things.  Applicants are eligible to receive up to $400 per bin or silo with a limit of $2400 per farm per year.  The MDA is accepting grant applications through May 15 or until all funds are used up.  Funds will be awarded on a first-come first-served basis.  You can find out more information on the MDA’s Grain Storage Facility Safety grant website.
