Twins get extra innings win, Miranda wins weekly award

(Chicago, IL) — The Minnesota Twins scored a pair of runs in the top of the 11th inning and went on to an 8-6 win over the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field last night in the Windy City. Minnesota rookie third baseman Brooks Lee drove in the go-ahead run with a single before Manuel Margot drove in an insurance run with an infield single. Trevor Larnach, Matt Wallner, and Carlos Correa all homered in the victory, while Jhoan Duran earned his fifth win in relief. Minnesota is on a three-game winning streak, improving to a season-high 13-games over .500 at 52-39. The Twins trail first-place Cleveland by five-games in the A-L Central. Martin Maldonado went deep in the losing effort for Chicago, while Jared Shuster was charged with his second loss in relief. The Southsiders have dropped three in a row and are now 41-games under .500 at 26-67. Minnesota is 8-0 against Chicago this season. Game two of the three-game series is tonight at 7:10 P-M.

(Undated) — Minnesota slugger Jose Miranda is being recognized for his record-tying week. The Twins infielder was named the American League Player of the Week yesterday. Miranda hit .700 with four doubles, a home run, and six R-B-I last week. He also tied a Major League Baseball record by getting a hit in 12 straight at-bats. The 26-year-old is hitting .332 with nine home runs and 43 R-B-I this season.
