Police Situation Resolved After Overnight Incident in Glencoe

An apparent standoff has been resolved after nearly 12 hours in Glencoe.

First Lutheran Church and School said in a social media post Monday morning that it will be closed while an active incident continues near its building. That incident concluded shortly after 8:30 a.m., according to the McLeod County Sheriff’s Office.

An administrator confirmed to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that the church has reopened but school will remain closed Monday, with classes resuming on Tuesday.

The McLeod County Sheriff’s Office asked the public to avoid an area about a block from First Lutheran on Sunday night, citing only a “law enforcement presence.”

That area is located right behind the school, where children typically play during recess.

The school says parents were notified Sunday night about the possibility of school being canceled if the incident wasn’t resolved by morning.

Law enforcement officials haven’t yet shared any details about what happened.
