He was born to be a farmer and took great pride in working the land and caring for his family. He was born December 29, 1940, and was the oldest son of Paul and Eudell (Sohm) Sunderman in St. Peter, MN. In High School, he was a wrestling champion and played football, while working on the family farm. He married his high school sweetheart, Joan (Mundt) Sunderman, on October 2, 1959; they enjoyed more than 65 years of marriage together. They raised three children and passed along their strong work ethic and love of farming.   Allan, in partnership with his brother Jerry, expanded Sunderman Farms from a modest operation into a growing multi-generational farm. They tended a flock of 75,000 laying hens and later a flock of sheep. He enjoyed farming and working alongside John and Judy, who later took over the farm.  Allan co-founded Mobilcrete, a ready-mix concrete operation, also partnering with Ron Schaffler. In the 1970s, he learned to pilot a small plane and ran the Fun Time Skiroule snowmobile dealership and race team out of the shop on the farm. In his semi-retirement years, he traveled the country with Joan in their motorhome, spending winters in Florida, exploring the country and eventually building a cabin outside Deadwood, South Dakota, welcoming many visitors.  Allan and Joan enjoyed visiting Karen and Mark in Duluth and spending time in the Black Hills with Lori and Eric.  He was a constant presence in the life of his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Allan was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Eudell (Sohm) Sunderman, and sister-in- law Eulalia Sunderman.

He is survived by his loving spouse, Joan and children: Lori (Eric) Maser of Inver Grove Heights, MN, John (Judy) of LeSueur, and Karen (Mark) LaLiberte of Duluth, MN. His grandchildren Tyler (Emily) Sunderman, Abby (Sam) Brummund, Michelle Maser, Jacqueline and Henri LaLiberte, seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Jerold Sunderman (New Ulm) and many other extended family members and dear friends. He will be remembered as a skilled negotiator and as a man with integrity, kindness, and inventiveness, such as fashioning a swimming pool from a recycled cheese vat. His ability to bring people together and his sense of fun was contagious.
The Sunderman family would like to thank Tracy Ogilvie and the caring staff at Oak Terrace Senior Living for their kind and attentive care.
