Andersson scores shootout winner, and the Flames hold off a late Wild comeback in 4-3 win
CALGARY, Alberta – Rasmus Andersson scored the decisive goal in the shootout as the Calgary Flames held off the Minnesota Wild 4-3 after squandering a two-goal lead late in the third period on Saturday.
Calgary received goals from Kevin Rooney, Martin Pospisil, and Yegor Sharangovich in regulation, securing their fourth consecutive win. Minnesota responded with goals from Marcus Johansson, Brock Faber, and Marco Rossi. Despite being the NHL’s top road team, the Wild suffered only their second regulation loss in 13 away games.
In the shootout, Frederick Gaudreau put Minnesota ahead before Justin Kirkland tied it for the Flames. Andersson then scored the winning goal in the fifth round, shooting past Wild goalie Filip Gustavsson. Calgary’s Dan Vladar made a crucial stop on Ryan Hartman to secure the victory. Vladar, making his first appearance in 11 days after rookie Dustin Wolf had started the previous three games, recorded 20 saves. Gustavsson stopped 28 shots for Minnesota.
Looking ahead, the Wild will host the Winnipeg Jets on Monday, while the Flames begin a four-game road trip against the Ottawa Senators the same night.
