Appleton Prison to Reopen as ICE Detention Center

A private prison in western Minnesota is set to reopen as a federal immigration detention center.

CoreCivic says it received a five-year contract from U-S Immigration and Customs Enforcement to operate the Prairie Correctional Facility in Appleton. The facility can hold up to 16-hundred detainees and has been closed since 2010.

The contract calls for the prison to become operational within 90 days. CoreCivic expects it could begin receiving detainees this fall. Federal contract notice
