Area Bear and Waterfowl Hunters Investigated Last Week
Officials with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources say some waterfowl hunters are reporting low success rates.
Conservation Officer Ben Huener in Roseau says in addition to preparing for the upcoming deer season and working two bear-related cases, he also monitored duck hunters around Thief Lake and Roseau River wildlife management areas. He says low success rates are being reported for waterfowl hunters. One of the bear investigations originated from a TIP that resulted in enforcement action being taken for a bear overlimit. Another bear was found to have been killed without a license, which was uncovered at a taxidermy inspection.
Conservation Officer Tony Hams in Warroad also spent the week checking area small-game and waterfowl hunters. Violations encountered were no license in possession and placing decoys more than two hours prior to legal shooting hours.
Meanwhile, Conservation Officer Sarah Jahn in Thief River Falls says time was spent monitoring waterfowl, small-game, and trapping activity. She reports that this week three tree stands were removed from a Wildlife Management Area.
