Arvid Duane Anderson was born October 9, 1947 in Mayville, North Dakota to Kenneth and Hazel (Beck) Anderson. The family moved to Wheaton, Minnesota in 1960 where he graduated from high school. He attended Valley City State College, then transferred to the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, where he studied electrical and electronic drafting technology. On March 23, 1968, he married Patricia Ann Robideau in Moorhead at St. Francis Catholic Church.
Arvid and Pat made their home in the twin cities area. Arvid started his career as a design draftsman for Strom Eng and GCS Inc. in Minneapolis, MN. In 1973, Arvid and Pat moved back to Wheaton where Arvid worked as the meat manager at the Red Owl, which later was renamed A&A Country Market. Once the store was sold, he worked for 3M in Wahpeton. His next adventure in employment was working for Gene and Lynae Berger’s farming and swine. He made a temporary move to Fargo and worked at Sunmart as a Seafood Manager for a short time. He then moved back to Wheaton and worked at Willy’s Super Valu as a meat manager. He retired and then was a part-time bus driver for Raguse Bus Line, Inc. In 2012, he became a full-time care giver to his wife, Pat.
Arvid was a volunteer firefighter. He served for 25 years on the Wheaton Fire Department. He served as the Fire Chief for four of those years. He also served as a state fire instructor and on the state fire board for 10 years. He was a lifetime member of the Masons at numerous lodges. He was also a member of the Shriners, Traverse County Sportsman Club, a board member on the Wildwood Cemetery Board, and was an eagle scout. He participated in men’s golf and bowling leagues.
Arvid spent his life taking care of people. He showed his love through his actions, through generosity and by simply being there when someone needed him. He could carry on a conversation with anyone. Arvid enjoyed watching his children’s grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s school programs, sports, church programs, and all their other activities.
Arvid and Pat enjoyed spending time together and sharing many of the same interests. They loved playing cards, going fishing, gardening, watching sporting events, going to church, and taking trips to the casino. They also enjoyed preparing meals together and grilling for family and friends. Most of all, they enjoyed spending time with their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and being part of their lives. He will be deeply missed by so many.
