Attorney General Campaign

Republican attorney-general candidate Ron Schutz is making public-program fraud a central issue in his campaign against DFL incumbent Keith Ellison.

Schutz argues Ellison’s office has not done enough to prevent or prosecute fraud. Ellison’s campaign points to 340 Medicaid-fraud convictions during the past seven years, although Schutz disputes whether every case should be characterized as a conviction.

Ellison’s office also recently announced an 18-point-5-million-dollar civil settlement with Partners in Nutrition. The competing claims remain part of an ongoing campaign dispute.
