BIZZARE TWIST IN SEARCH FOR NEW AUBURN MAN
A bizarre sequence of events has led to the death of a New Auburn man who was a fugitive from law enforcement. David Powers failed to show up for his trial in Washington County Monday on charges of rape and kidnapping. He was convicted on all counts by a jury in the 2023 incident. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office confirms that Powers is dead from injuries suffered when he jumped off a bridge near the San Antonio airport. San Antonio police say that Powers was injured, but was able to walk alongside the highway. A motorist pulled over to help but police say Powers pulled the man out of the vehicle and started to assault him in an attempt to steal the vehicle. Powers was taken into custody. He was rushed to a hospital where he died from his injuries. Washington County is still investigating the circumstances that resulted in Powers’ death.
