Blaine Officer Injured During Suspected DWI Investigation

A Blaine police officer is recovering after being thrown from a moving Corvette during a suspected impaired-driving investigation.

Police responded to a property-damage crash near Jefferson Street Northeast and Northtown Drive Monday afternoon. Investigators say the Corvette’s driver ignored an order to stop and returned to the vehicle.

The officer attempted to remove the driver, but police say the Corvette accelerated while the officer’s upper body was still partially inside. The officer was thrown to the ground before the vehicle struck a retaining wall and overturned.

The officer was treated at a hospital and released. The driver was evaluated and booked into the Anoka County Jail on allegations including criminal vehicular operation, fleeing police, assault and D-W-I.
A formal criminal complaint had not been filed when police released the information.
