BLUE EARTH MAN SENTENCED FOR JANUARY 6 INVOLVEMENT

A Blue Earth man has received a six-month for his involvement in the January 6, 2021 assault on the U.S Capitol.  35-year-old Paul Orta, Jr. pled guilty to civil disorder and aiding and abetting and was sentenced to U.S District Court for the District of Columbia.  Video taken at the Capitol building that day allegedly showed Orta moving barricades and other activities like approaching police officers, throwing an object at police and pushing through a police line.  Orta was also ordered to pay $2000 in restitution to the architect of the U.S Capitol to account for his share of damage to the buildings and grounds which was estimated to be nearly $3-million.  Over 1400 people have charged for crimes related to the January 6 event including fourteen from Minnesota.
