Boelter Demands Speedy Trial in State Murder Case

(Minneapolis, MN) — The man convicted in the 2025 shootings that killed former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and wounded State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, is now facing a state trial.

Vance Luther Boelter pleaded not guilty Wednesday to first-degree murder charges in Hennepin County and demanded a speedy trial.

A judge scheduled the case for November 2nd.

Boelter is already serving two life sentences following his federal conviction.

His attorneys argue the state case violates protections against double jeopardy and want the trial moved out of Hennepin County because of extensive publicity.
