Brosmer shines as Gophers dominate Rhode Island 48-0

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Minnesota’s impressive 48-0 victory over Rhode Island showcased a potent passing attack led by Max Brosmer. The graduate transfer from New Hampshire, who topped the FCS in passing yards per game last year, demonstrated his capability by throwing for 271 yards and two touchdowns in just three quarters. Brosmer completed 24 of 30 passes, helping the Gophers control the clock and dominate both sides of the ball.

Despite Minnesota’s historical emphasis on a run-heavy offense under head coach P.J. Fleck, Brosmer’s performance and the team’s shift towards a more pass-oriented game could signal a strategic evolution. With Darius Taylor, who missed the season opener due to injury, contributing both on the ground and in the air, the Gophers displayed a balanced and effective offense.

The defense was equally dominant, limiting Rhode Island to 135 total yards and forcing four turnovers. The Gophers kept the Rams’ offense largely ineffective, with sophomore quarterback Devin Farrell managing only 76 yards and struggling against Minnesota’s defensive pressure.

Minnesota’s control of the game was evident in their methodical drives, including a 14-play, 85-yard drive that chewed up nearly eight minutes of clock time. Brosmer’s efficient play led to a series of scoring drives, including a 6-yard touchdown pass to Cristian Driver and a 29-yard touchdown pass to Le’Meke Brockington. The Gophers’ defense even contributed a touchdown with a 25-yard interception return by Jack Henderson.

Next up for Minnesota is a matchup against Nevada, which will conclude their nonconference slate before they face Iowa in their Big Ten opener. Meanwhile, New Hampshire will host Campbell in their CAA opener.
