BROWN COUNTY WARNS OF SCAM INVOLVING JAIL ROSTER

The Brown  County Sheriff’s Office is warning you to beware of a scam that involves the Brown County jail roster.  Officials say that once someone new is added to the jail roster, their parents or family members are called and the scammer asks for money.  When the family checks the roster, it shows the person is in jail.   The scammers will ask for PayPal accounts, phone cards, Amazon gift cards, ITunes cards and other gift cards and money orders.  Officials say law enforcement will never request that bail be posted by any of those means.  There is a process in which bail is collected.  If you answered the call and sent money or gave out personal information, you should report it to law enforcement, bank or credit card company fraud department.
