Carol Darlene (Osterman) Durkee was born on January 14, 1933 in Moore Township to Herman and Florence (Agar) Osterman. She attended Hancock Public School in Hancock, Minnesota, graduating with the class of 1951.

Nearly 71 years ago, Carol met the love of her life, Arthur Durkee. They were married September 5, 1953, and to this union seven children were born.

Carol was a stay at home mom, working endlessly on their family farm raising their children, gardening and canning, grinding wheat and making bread, preparing meals, churning butter, mowing the lawn and gathering eggs from nearly 8,000 chickens. To say she was a hard worker is an understatement.

Carol was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Morris, MN. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and later her great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards, having coffee with friends, and teasing some of her favorite staff at The Legacy.

She is survived by her five children: Jackie (Ken) Nohl of Hancock, MN, Rita (Dean) Meichsner of Morris, MN, Keith Durkee of Hancock, MN, Peg (Brian) Kruize of Morris, MN, and Linda (Terry) Engebretson of Cyrus,MN; twelve grandchildren: Brian (Kayla) Nohl, Tonya (Bryan) Weiss, Karla (Lorne) Nadgwick, Eric (Liz) Meichsner, Tyler (McKinzie) Meichsner, Tracy Meichsner (special friend Jackson Miller), Emma (Brandon) Leuthardt, Olivia (Will) Schroers, Amber (Scott) Melberg, Bree (Mitch) Daly, Tera (Tyler) Erdman, and Travis Engebretson; twenty-four great-grandchildren and counting; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Art, and two sons: Albert and Greg Durkee; her parents: Herman and Florence Osterman; and siblings: Robert Osterman, Wilfred (Fritz) Osterman, Kenneth Osterman, Margaret Osterman, Herb Osterman, Dorothy Eckstein, and Marion Opp.

In lieu of sending individual notes, we would like to take this opportunity to say a very heartfelt “THANK YOU” to everyone for your many acts of kindness and support during this difficult time.
