CCUSA WITH LON HELTON AND KEITH URBAN 11/30-12/1
The co-host this wknd is Keith Urban, who is in the countdown with “Messed Up As Me.” Keith just released a new album called “High.” He recently appeared at the Concert For Carolina, at the invitation of Eric Church. Also there was a longtime friend, James Taylor. Keith also teases his 2025 world tour.
Keith talks about the unique videos he did for the song, including one at 2:45 AM. “Everything about the song is brutally true and real. When we shot the video, one of them was set downtown at 2:45AM. We filmed real people and real situations. We captured some very real people.”
Keith performed with Eric Church at the Concert For Carolina. “Eric called me, said he was putting this concert on. Would you be a part of it? Of course. They did an amazing job. It was a really good cause. Lot of people were decimated, especially in the mountains.”
Keith said he reconnected there with an old friend: James Taylor. “I actually went to a Paul McCartney concert and sat with James Taylor. We had the same manager at that time. We had dinner, and went to see Paul McCartney. We went backstage to see Paul. He signed James to his first record deal. They’ve known each other since the 60s. I was in heaven.”
Keith talks about his friendship with Dolly Parton. “She’s the best. She’s one of my northern stars. When I got the news I was inducted in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, they said I could pick who inducted me. I chose Dolly. I sent her a handwritten letter. And she showed up! It’s insane!”
There’s a song on Keith’s new album called “Break The Chain” about addiction. He & Lon talked about the inspiration: “That song was unexpected. I realized I’m still working through my relationship with my dad. As I get older, I see him differently. He was struggling too, because of his dad raised him. At some point, I realized I have to break the chain.”
Keith will be announcing a big tour for 2025 very soon. “It’s coming. It’s a big tour. Everywhere, US, Canada, Australia, everywhere. I’m looking forward to it. I was so frustrated that I couldn’t tour properly this year. Touring is #1 for me.”
Keith also has great stories this week about Jelly Roll, Tyler Hubbard, Lainey Wilson, Post Malone, and more.
