Chippewa County Road 4 Opens To Public

Project Update:
County Road 4 between County Road 13 and MN 40 will open to the public today, Wednesday,
November 6, 2024. The detour route signs will be removed soon.
On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, the Contractor wrapped up their work for the season. The total
project length is approximately 6 miles. Construction work in 2024 included milling and
reclaiming the existing bituminous pavement, re-grading the roadway, drainage improvements,
and placing reclaimed aggregate base surface on the roadway. The Contractor was R & G
Construction Co. from Marshall, MN.

Traffic Impacts of Upcoming Work:
As planned, the road surface will remain gravel until next year (2025) when the road will be
paved.
About this Project:
In 2018, MnDOT transferred ownership of MN 277 (now CSAH 4) from MN 7 to MN 40 (11 miles
in length) to Chippewa County. Chippewa County plans to reconstruct all 11 miles of highway.
Planning for the project began in 2020. This is the first of a four phased project planned as
follows:
• Grading, drainage, and aggregate surfacing from CSAH 13 to MN 40 (6 miles) in 2024
• Paving from CSAH 13 to MN 40 (6 miles) in 2025
• Grading, drainage, and aggregate surfacing from MN 7 to CSAH 13 (5 miles) in 2026
• Paving from MN 7 to CSAH 13 (5 miles) in 2027
Construction is estimated to occur in 2024 through 2027.
