CITY APPROVES STATE OF EMERGENCY

The New Ulm City Council approved a state of emergency declaration after the Cottonwood River flooded and crews kept it free of debris.  Debris from fallen trees had piled into and then underneath the Cottonwood Bridge.  City crews had to remove the debris frequently.  There is also concern that continued runoff and flooding due to ground saturation and rain yet this week.  New Ulm Police Chief and Emergency Management Director Dave Borchert says costs due to any type debris cleanup or pumping of the Minnesota River would be reimbursed due to being preventative measures.  Overtime, street time an staffing costs have all been recorded.
