COLD WEATHER RULE TAKES EFFECT TUESDAY

The Minnesota Cold Weather Rule take effect Tuesday (today) and Xcel Energy want to ensure that if you need help paying their energy bills this winter can get the help they need.  Residential customers are protected from service disconnection from October 1 through April 30 if the disconnection would affect the customer’s primary heating source.  If you receive a disconnection notice, you should call your utility immediately to set up a payment plan.  Local community energy assistance programs are also available.  The Minnesota Energy Assistance Program pays up to $2000 towards heat, power, water costs or repairing or replacing a broken heating system for eligible households.   You can find out more at mn.gov/EnergyAssistance or call 1-800-657-3710.
