Congress Delays Federal Hemp Ban Until December

A measure delaying new federal restrictions on hemp products is headed to President Trump’s desk.

The provision is included in a bipartisan government-funding bill passed by Congress. It postpones the federal hemp ban until December 11th, 2026, while still prohibiting synthetic hemp derivatives.

Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar helped secure the delay after introducing related legislation with Kentucky Republican Rand Paul.

Klobuchar says the additional time will provide more certainty for Minnesota farmers, brewers, retailers and customers while lawmakers pursue a long-term solution.

The delay is temporary and does not repeal the federal restrictions. The legislation still requires the president’s signature.
