COUNCIL APPROVES RESTRICTING ACCESS TO HERMANN MONUMENT
Public access to the Hermann Monument in New Ulm will be restricted. The city council approved the recommendation from the Park and Rec Department. Park and Rec Director Joey Schugel says the monument is inspected is done every year before the monument is open to the public and this is the first year restricted access to the monument has been recommended. Schugel says access could be restricted for quite a while…
Schugel said private access could still be possible to people or groups deemed appropriate by the city under certain conditions which would include city staff inspecting the monument for any further visible damage or deterioration immediately prior to entry. You would be required to sign a liability waiver plus signs will be put up explaining why the monument is restricted. The projected cost for deconstruction and reconstruction is $11.6-million.
