Country Music Legend Dolly Parton Dies at 80

Country music legend Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80 following a brief battle with cancer.

Parton died Tuesday at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, surrounded by loved ones. Her representatives have not disclosed the type of cancer.

Parton rose from poverty in Tennessee’s Smoky Mountains to become one of America’s most celebrated singers, songwriters and entertainers. Her best-known songs include “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” “Coat of Many Colors” and “I Will Always Love You.”

Her legacy also includes Dollywood and the Imagination Library, which has provided more than 300 million books to children.

President Donald Trump has ordered flags lowered at federal buildings through sunset September 1st. North Dakota Governor Kelly Armstrong issued a matching directive for U.S. and state flags.

Parton’s family plans a small private service and is encouraging donations to the Imagination Library in place of flowers.
