COURTLAND INCIDENT CAUSES POWER OUTAGE FOR SOME

Part of the city of Courtland experienced a power outage Tuesday night.   Maintenance and utilities supervisor and fire chief Dave Ubel says around 9:45 there was a large flash on one end of town that then went throughout town knocking down power lines and causing small fires in town.  Ubel estimates there were lines down in five different locations of Courtland and power went out in parts of town.  Ubel said crews from Belle Plaine and Jordan came to fix the lines and get power restored around 4:45 this (Wednesday) morning.   The Courtland Fire Department was out from 9:45 Tuesday evening until about 3:45 Wednesday morning.  There were strong winds Tuesday evening but Ubel said that so far, no cause for the line failures has been determined.
