Crissy Lake Dam Project Update
The Morris City Council heard an update on the Crissy Lake Dam project at their Tuesday meeting. A representative of Houston Engineering said a number of design changes were made following two public meetings on the reconstruction project. These include doing some dredging along Riverview Drive to create more depth in the channel, and building up the ground by the Pomme de Terre Campground to make the elevation three feet higher than the original proposal.
Matt Solemsaas of Stevens Soil and Water Conservation District noted that what now looks like a creek will become a riverbed. Today, there are no good access points from the campground, he said, but with this plan there will be a greater number of areas for fishing as well as direct access for canoes and kayaks. Solemsaas said most homeowners along the area will see improvements and the project is 100 percent grant funded.
The Council members seemed pleased that local concerns were taken into account in the final draft of the plan. Houston Engineering is looking for the City Council to provide some official support for the project, and the Council approved the City Manager to draft such a resolution.
