Darnold is the #1 QB right now for Vikings

(Eagan, MN) — The Minnesota Vikings won’t be giving their first-round quarterback first-team reps once training camp begins next month. Head coach Kevin O’Connell told reporters yesterday that veteran Sam Darnold will begin camp as the number-one quarterback. Darnold was signed as a free agent in March after Kirk Cousins spurned the Purple to join Atlanta, but the Vikings used the tenth overall pick to draft Michigan J-J McCarthy in April. O’Connell says Darnold is the number-one at this point because of the spring he has had and how he’s “hit the ground running.” Minnesota has one more Organized Team Activities session today to wrap up the week. Training camp starts late next month. The team announced that nine of those practices will be open to the public. The practices will happen between July 27th and August 8th, and fans will be able to watch a night practice on August 5th. The first preseason game comes on Saturday, August 10th at home against Las Vegas.
