DEADLY Crash in Pope County

Two men were killed around 7:41 p.m. Saturday in a two-vehicle crash near Villard on Minnesota Highway 28 and Pope County Road 57. Nicholas Bergmann, 39, of Oakdale and Isaac Mitchell Carlson, of Glenwood, were identified Sunday by the Minnesota State Patrol as the fatalities.

According to the State Patrol’s incident report, the 2013 Ford Fusion, driven by Bergman, was headed eastbound on Minnesota Highway 28, while the 2021 Ram 1500 Pickup, driven by Carlson was headed westbound.

The two vehicles collided head-on near the intersection of Highway 28 and Pope County Road 57. Reports say both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and it is currently unknown if alcohol played any role.
