Diane Marie Skelley
Diane Marie Skelley, age 59 of Belle Plaine, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 11,
2026, at her home, surrounded by loved ones. Memorial service will be at 5p.m. on Thursday,
April 16, 2026, at St. John Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine. Visitation will be from 3-5p.m. at
the church prior to the service. Military Rites will take place outside the church following the
memorial service, followed by a meal served in the church social hall. Interment will take place
at a later date in St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery in Jessenland. Memorials are preferred.
Diane was born on August 31, 1966, in Albert Leas, MN to Cornelius and Hazel (Stoa) Spiering.
She attended Hollandale Elementary School, Brookside Junior High, and Albert Lea High
School graduating in 1984. After graduating she joined the US Army Military Police Corp where
she met some of the greatest people on Earth. She served from 1986-1993 and was part of Desert
Storm. During that time, she married Christopher Lowe and they had a son, Tallen Lowe.
After separating from the Army, Diane worked for the USPS eventually finding her way to Belle
Plaine. She met and married the only man that ever mattered, Matthew Skelley. Together they
made a life, started Skelley Towing and had two children, Kade and Kiersten.
Diane enjoyed traveling and the great outdoors. Always preferring a bike ride over staring out a
window. She managed to accumulate some awesome friends along the way. For the last ten
years, she worked as a custodian at Belle Plaine Schools with some great people.
Diane is survived by her husband, Matt, sons, Tallen (Lily) of Los Angeles, CA, and Kade
(Sophie) of Belle Plaine, and daughter Kiersten of Belle Plaine. Two of the most adorable
humans you will meet, granddaughters Claire and Mabel. Mother Hazel Spiering of Albert Lea.
Sisters, Theresa (Roger) Goff of Bloomington and Kerri (John) Davies of Reiles Acres, ND.
Skelley Brothers and sisters in law, Michael (Frank), Christian (David), Elisha, Mark (Ally), and
Bridgette. Nieces and nephews, Brody (Bria), Fran (Solveig), Abby (Dan), Jack, and Ben. As
well as Carrick, Maeve, Blake, and Harley. Lots of great cousins and aunts and uncles. And
many friends who Diane considered family.
She is preceded in death by the best dad ever, Cornie Spiering, Grandparents Gazina and Gerrit
Spiering and Melvin and Dorothy Stoa. Parents in law Patrick and Bonnie Skelley.
