DNR Launches State Park License Plate Contest

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is inviting residents to design the state’s next parks and trails license plate.

The contest theme is the North Shore and the Lake Superior agate—Minnesota’s official state gemstone. Artistic experience is not required, but entrants must be Minnesota residents, and designs cannot be created in whole or in part using artificial intelligence.

Online submissions will be accepted from September 15th through October 31st. Judges will select three finalists in November, followed by public voting in early December. The winning design will be announced in mid-December.

The new plate is expected to become available in January. Plate proceeds will support Minnesota state parks and trails, and vehicles displaying it will receive admission to state parks and recreation areas. Minnesota DNR
