Donald “Don” Joseph Barnett

Donald “Don” Joseph Barnett, age 87, of Kilkenny, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 8, 2024 at his home. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 12 from 4-7pm at Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery. Visitation will continue Saturday, July 13 from 10-11am at St. Canice Catholic Church in Kilkenny with Mass of Christian Burial at 11am with Father Timothy Sandquist and Father George Grafsky officiating. Interment will be held at St. Michael’s Cemetery in rural Montgomery. Military honors will be provided by the Montgomery area Veterans Honor Guard.

Don was born on September 12, 1936 in New Prague to John and Amanda (Muggli) Barnett. He was a 1954 graduate of Montgomery High School. He was in the Army Reserves for 6 years. On October 8, 1960 Don was united in marriage to Darlene Mary Boumeester at St. Francis of Assisi in Marine on St. Croix. Happily married for almost 64 years. Don was the co-owner of Barnett Bros. Inc. Grading and Excavating Contractors, Loss Lake Farms, Inc.

Don loved working the land. His favorite seasons were planting and harvesting the fruits of his labor. Don also enjoyed seeing new lie being born every spring and calving season and watching his co/calf herd flourish. Don’s strong Catholic faith and deep love for his family was the cornerstone of his daily life.

Don will be forever missed by his loving wife, Darlene of Kilkenny; children, Therese Barnett (Ron Trcka) of Shieldsville, Ellen Budin of Waseca, Patrick (Amy) Barnett of Kilkenny, David Barnett of Prior Lake, and Margaret (Heidi Wendorf) Barnett of Duluth; grandchildren, Jack and Ben Barnett, Collin and Anna Barnett, Braelen Budin and Jenny Angelow; siblings, John (Sue Sullivan) Barnett, and Mary Ann (Jim) Gunville both of Chanhassen; sister-in-law, Vicki Boumeester of Bloomington.

Don is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bob and Bill Barnett; sisters-in-law, Jan Barnett, Mavor Barnett, and Lois Barnett; mother and father-in-law, Delbert and Rita Boumeester; brother-in-law, Dale Boumeester; nephews, Joseph Barnett, Joey Gunville, and Mike Barnett.
