Doris Helen Stier
Doris Helen Stier, age 83 of Belle Plaine, formerly of Henderson, died on Monday, July 27, 2026
at her home. Funeral service will be on Monday, August 10, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Centennial
Lutheran Church in Henderson, MN. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 9, 2026 from 3:00
p.m. ~ 6:00 p.m. at the Kolden Funeral Home in Le Sueur, MN and one hour prior to the service
at the church the morning of the service. Burial to follow lunch at Oakwood Cemetery in Belle
Plaine, MN. Rev. Dennis McManus will preside over the services.
Doris was born on September 4, 1942 to Edward and Helen (Long) Mollenhauer in St. Peter,
MN. She grew up on a small farm outside of Le Sueur. She attended Le Sueur Public Schools
and graduated in 1960 with honors. Following high school, she attended Swedish Hospital
School of Nursing in Minneapolis and graduated in 1963 as a Registered Nurse. While there she
met an incredible group of friends and continued that friendship for 65 years.
In December of 1964, she met Lyle Stier. They were united in marriage on November 5, 1965 at
Zion United Church of Christ Church in Le Sueur, MN. They made their home in Henderson, MN
and were blessed with two daughters, Deanne and Janell.
After moving to Henderson, Doris continued her career as an RN at Minnesota Valley Memorial
Hospital in Le Sueur, MN and worked there for 48 years until her retirement in 2013.
Doris loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was one of
McConnell Racings' biggest fans attending almost every race that the boys participated in. She
loved to garden and bake chocolate chip cookies for the grandkids. Doris was very active at
Centennial Lutheran Church in the church choir, Sunday School and Bible School, church
council, LWML and co-chaired the annual church fish fry for over 30 years. She enjoyed many
trips across the United States, Canada and even Ireland, Scottland and England. She also took a
couple “girls' trips” with Deanne and Janell. One to New York for her 70 th birthday and one to
Las Vegas to see Celine Dion at the Colosseum.
She is survived by her daughters, Deanne (Michael) McConnell of Henderson, MN and Janell
(Douglas) Hoernemann of Lonsdale, MN. Grandsons, Brett (Emily) McConnell, Justin McConnell
(Fiancé Katelyn Herrley) and Nick McConnell (Fiancé Karly Breeggemann). Great-grandchildren
Lainey, Baylee, Parker and Wyatt. Brother-in-law Ron Freimark, Nephew David Jones, Nieces
Lori Kloth, Sharon Croom, Beth Westphal, Kristi Yee, Karin Miller and Joy Henke.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Lyle, sister Hazel Jones, Brother-in-laws Loren
Jones, Earl Stier and Dick Tillquist, Sister-in-laws Elverna Tillquist and Loraine Freimark.
