Driver Arrested After Chase in Renville County

A driver was arrested after a high-speed chase in Renville County Tuesday evening that began in Olivia.

At just before 6:30pm, an Olivia Police Officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle near Hwy 212 and 14th St in Olivia for speeding and illegal passing.

The vehicle initially pulled over and stopped but the driver then accelerated and fled westbound on Hwy 212 west of Olivia reaching speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour.

After other agencies were called to assist, a Renville County Sheriff’s deputy successfully deployed a tire deflation device, causing several tires on the suspect vehicle to deflate.

During the pursuit, a responding deputy was forced off the road by the suspect vehicle and had to enter the ditch to avoid a collision.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop near Hwy 212 and County Rd 1 and the driver was arrested without further incident and taken to Renville County Jail with charges pending.
