Empowering Communities, Celebrating Minnesota Locally

DWI ENFORCEMENT CAMPAIGN UNDERWAY

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety is asking you if you are planning your Labor Day celebrations to make sure safety is number one.  Troopers, deputies and  officers will be participating in a DWI enforcement campaign today (Friday) through September 2 to stop impaired driving from endangering lives.  Law enforcement will be looking for drivers who appear impaired by alcohol, cannabis, prescription medications or other substances.  Authorities say there were 412 drunk driving-related traffic deaths in Minnesota from 2018 to 2022.  There have been 64 alcohol-related traffic fatalities through August 11 this year, the same amount as last year and way down from 80 at this time in 2022.  Authorities say if you plan on celebrating over Labor Day, or any weekend, make sure you plan for a sober driver, use a safe, alternative transportation option or just stay where you are.  And make sure you buckle up and don’t drive distracted.
