Edwards hits late free throws to lift the Timberwolves past the Kings, 117-115
SACRAMENTO, CA – Anthony Edwards sealed the game with two crucial free throws, hitting them with just 2.4 seconds left, as the Timberwolves edged the Kings 117-115 in Sacramento’s season opener on Thursday night. Edwards was fouled by Domantas Sabonis while driving to the basket, and he stepped up to convert both shots, finishing with 32 points.
As the buzzer sounded, Keegan Murray’s last-second three-pointer rattled off the rim, denying the Kings a chance to tie. Julius Randle led the Timberwolves with 33 points in his second game since joining the team in a trade from New York earlier this month.
For the Kings, DeMar DeRozan shone in his debut, scoring 26 points after coming over from Chicago in a summer sign-and-trade. Sabonis contributed 24 points, and Murray added 23.
Looking ahead, the Timberwolves will host the Toronto Raptors on Saturday, while the Kings will head to Los Angeles to face the Lakers.
