Errors doom Twins
(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Twins collected only three hits and made a pair of defensive errors during a 5-1 loss to the New York Mets at Target Field last night. Pitchers Justin Topa and Jorge Alcala each made throwing errors helping the Mets score a pair of runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings, breaking a 1-1 tie. New York’s Juan Soto hit a two-run homer and Mark Vientos hit an R-B-I double, while Minnesota catcher Christian Vazquez drove in Minnesota’s only run on a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. Topa was charged with the loss. Minnesota has dropped four of its past five games. New York improved to 11-5 on the year. The Twins drew only 10,240 fans to the game, which is the lowest attendance figure for any non-COVID related game in Target Field history. The 5-12 Twins send Bailey Ober to the mound against the Mets tonight at 6:40 P-M. In other club news, Ty France was named the American League Player of the Week.
