Eugene Jorgenson

Eugene Jorgenson, 92, of Argyle, MN, died in Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton, ND, on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

Eugene Irwin Jorgenson was born on July 14, 1932, the son of George and Clara (Bjorsness) Jorgenson, at home on the farm in Alma Township, rural Argyle. He attended country school through the 8th grade and completed his freshman year at Argyle High School before leaving early to begin his life’s work: farming. In May of 1958, he entered the US Army, serving his country for two years as a Jeep driver in Hawaii before his honorable discharge on May 6, 1960. On October 10, 1964, Eugene was united in marriage to Marlene Hunstad in Alma Lutheran Church, the same church in which they both were baptized and confirmed. Over the years, he held numerous positions at Alma Lutheran including janitor, trustee, and deacon, and was sexton of the cemetery for many years. He was also active in a number of other organizations including the Eagles Club, the Argyle American Legion, and the Marshall County Historical Society. The Jorgenson Farm became a Century Farm under his care (1909-2009) and he worked at American Crystal Sugar for 33 years alongside his other duties.

All of these accomplishments may be summed up by the example he leaves behind for his three sons and their families: value a hard day’s work on the farm; keep a neat yard in every season; and attend church on Sundays, trusting in God’s will.

May the Lord Bless and Keep Him.

Eugene is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marlene of Argyle; sons, Karl (Becky) Jorgenson of Mayville, ND, Knute Jorgenson (Dawn Larson) of Grand Forks, ND, and Kris (Kendra) Jorgenson of Argyle; and nine grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Isaac) Westall, Zachary Jorgenson, Casey Jorgenson, Ava, Ariel, Asher, and Amos Jorgenson, and David and Dylan Larson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Clara; sisters, Elaine Benson, Elizabeth Hammerback, and Harriet Westlin; and brothers, Clifford, Earl, and Laurence Jorgenson.
