FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDS TO 209 SOUTH MINNESOTA STREET

The New Ulm Fire Department was called to 209 South Minnesota Street at 12:37 this (Wednesday) morning for the report of smoke throughout an apartment building.  The fire and police departments evacuated the tenants of the building.  Chief Paul Macho said the fire started in the kitchen of one apartment was contained to that apartment but there was smoke throughout the building.  The fire was under control within a half hour and crews were on the scene for about an hour-and-a-half.  A cause is under investigation.  No one was hurt.  The New Ulm Fire Department was assisted by the police department and Allina Ambulance.  The Red Cross is assisting with housing.
