First Place Twins win again

(Minneapolis, MN/Learfield News) — The Minnesota Twins scored 11 times in the first two innings and went on to beat the Boston Red Sox last night at Target Field 13-6. The win was the seventh in the past eight games for Minnesota, which improved to 10-7 on the season. The Twins remain tied atop the American League Central Division with Cleveland. First baseman Victor Caratini and third baseman Ryan Kreidler each homered in the second inning to push the lead to 11-zip after two. Centerfielder Byron Buxton belted a solo shot in the fifth inning, as did catcher Ryan Jeffers. The Buxton homer was his first of the season, but also his 85th all-time round-tripper at Target Field, pushing him past former teammate Max Kepler for most homers ever hit at the ballpark. Starting and winning pitcher Bailey Ober improved to 2-0 after throwing six innings of seven-hit, four-run ball. He fanned seven and walked one. Boston dipped to 6-10 on the season. Game two of the three-game series is tonight at 6:40 P-M in downtown Minneapolis.
