Fischbach Introduces Bill Allowing Medicare Enrollees to Fund HSAs

Minnesota Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach has introduced legislation that would allow working seniors enrolled in Medicare Part A to continue contributing to Health Savings Accounts.

Current federal rules generally prevent Medicare enrollees from making tax-advantaged H-S-A contributions. Fischbach says the Hardworking Seniors Act would remove that restriction for seniors who remain covered by qualifying high-deductible employer health plans.

The proposal is supported by the Employers Council on Flexible Compensation and the H-S-A Coalition.

The bill, H-R 10072, has been referred to the House Ways and Means Committee. It would still require congressional approval before becoming law. U.S. Government Publishing Office
